About
Meet Lingua
Contemporary Fine Artist | Fort Lauderdale, FL
Michael Edwards, known professionally as Lingua, is a contemporary artist recognized for his luminous gel ink compositions that fuse intricate detail, surreal storytelling, and emotional resonance.
A Visionary Technique
Lingua has developed a distinct method that blends artistic vision - a process he personally engineered over years of experimentation and refinement.
His large-scale portraits are rendered with gel ink on cold-pressed cloth paper, using traditional and custom made drawing instruments. Each piece is composed of thousands of precisely calibrated strokes using gel pens, glitter pens, and black ink - transforming line and texture into emotional, multi-sensory experiences that shift under both natural and UV light.
The Magic Is in the Details
“The magic is in the details,” says Lingua — and it shows. Lingua’s work often explores themes of transformation, mythology, identity, and the divine feminine. While his drawing process is entirely analog, some of the visual references originate from a range of sources: some are based on photographs, some are original compositions, and some are developed with the assistance of AI-generated imagery. Taking inspiration from our modern environment, each work is meticulously designed and executed through his self-invented technique, ensuring that the final piece is entirely his own artistic expression.
Recognition and Presence
Based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Lingua is emerging as a distinctive voice in the international art scene. His work earned widespread acclaim at Spectrum Miami Art Fair 2024, where his UV-reactive portraiture stood out for its immersive, futuristic edge.
Collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts are increasingly drawn to Lingua’s unique ability to fuse traditional craftsmanship with contemporary themes like technology, identity, and light.
Artist Vision
Using a self-invented analog technique, Lingua creates original, photo-based, and AI-inspired works drawn in gel ink, offering a new vision for the future of contemporary art world.
